MOTHER’S DAY BRUNCH, MAY 14, 2006
Despite early morning intermittent bands of rain showers over
Chocowinity, sunshine and good weather prevailed during our annual Mother’s
Day Brunch. 101 members and their guests attended and were seated on the
porch, patio and lawn of the marina lounge. Everyone enjoyed a selection of
three tasty casseroles, sausage, muffins, pastry, fresh fruit cup, juice,
and assorted delicious desserts. Our satellite bar did a thriving
business. Event co-chairs, Marsha Remyn, Alberta Paris, and Sarah
Chamberlain, did an outstanding job with the help of a super volunteer
team.
Many thanks to the
following members who helped make this year’s event such a success:
reservations/flyer – Sue Rella, Shirley Hanberry; setup - Pat and
Bleecker Cooke, Bill Lord, Sarah Chamberlain and Ed Galston, Bob Moore,
Alberta and Ray Paris, Marsha Remyn; sausage cooks – Norm Balintfy,
Dan Wagner; servers/runners – Fred Kaplan, Ed Galston, Jack Menzie,
Roy and Peg Gerritsen, Reg Smith, Buzz Clagett; casserole cooks – Peg
Gerritsen, Ingrid Butler, Alberta Paris, Chris Garrod, Joy Young, Ginni
Waite, Donna Wagner, Mary Laptewicz, Marsha Remyn; cleanup – “the
crew”; cameraman – Bill Lord.
Several of our
members had out-of-town guests attending the brunch, the Ahlmans, Brodericks,
Geoghegans, Jarvahs, and Delores Schleppy. Lovely Kalanchoe plants were
purchased as give-aways, and the lucky recipients were Carole Harris,
with a total of 22 children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren in her
family; Ruby Lane, our oldest “mum” (94); and Stacey McLoughlin,
daughter of Joanne Broderick, who had traveled the furthest (New York).
Centerpieces for the
buffet tables were vases of long-stemmed red roses, which were given to all
the women in honor of Mother’s Day. What a pleasure to see so many smiling
faces enjoying such a pleasant social event at the Yacht Club!
