144 members attended the 6th
annual Commodore’s Ball and a great time was had by all. Everyone enjoyed
the cocktail hour and the crab dip was one of the hits of the night. A
dinner of prime rib and Chicken Virginian was catered by Scarborough Fair
but the rave reviews were saved for the Chocolate Amaretto Cake served with
Raspberry sauce for dessert.
After dinner, our Commodore Frank
Garrod introduced the past Commodores, Ev. Phillips, BJ Reckman, Hal Stasch,
Mike Staples and Wendy MacDonald noting that many newcomers were unaware of
the fine past contributions of these members.
Frank went on to introduce the 2005
Bridge and Committee members each of whom gave a brief overview of their
achievements for the year. Winners of the best decorated boats were
announced, Mayor Jimmy Mobley and his wife Judy were our judges this year
thanks to Marcy Cord. The winners were Dancin with Wind for best Sailboat,
Pamlico Mann for best Power boat over 22’, The Rodrigues boat for best power
boat under 22’ and the runners up: Red-E-Tug-O and Kiosk. The winners each
received West Marine gift certificates for their efforts.
Frank introduced the new Bridge:
Larry Ahlman, Commodore; Jamey Ross, Vice Commodore; Al Ross, Secretary and
Maria Musor, Rear Commodore who were presented with Officer Flags.
The evening continued with dancing
to DJ Jeff Diamond of Oldies 107.9 – it’s amazing how popular the electric
slide is!!
A special thank you goes out to all
the folks who helped set-up, make table decorations and turned out Sunday am
for cleanup. The centerpieces designed by Maja & Allan Weaver and MJ Peters
were lovely and lucky winners were able to take these home to enjoy. This
wonderful evening concludes the 2005 season and we all look forward to
2006.
