OCTOBER
15, 2005
What A day! The weather
was glorious and the sailors had plenty of wind in their sails to make for
an interesting race. The winner of Fleet 1 was Russ Thomas and his crew on
“After All” and in the Fleet 2 category it was Bill Francis and his crew
aboard Southern Cross. Our Commodore, Frank Garrod presented trophies to
the winning teams.
Following the
presentations, everyone had a wonderful time at the picnic where the food
was plentiful and we served 107 meals. Thanks to my “crew”, Maja Weaver,
Toni Reiner, Peg Gerritsen, Dorothy Hoban, Alberta Paris, MJ Peters, Sandra
Whitley, Shelly Rebholz and Jean Uhr, between us we cooked and served
almost 50 lbs of beef. I’m happy to say, the leftovers didn’t go to waste,
Jo Maxson distributed “care packages” to our elderly sunshine neighbors.
Due to the wonderful
weather we were able to set up our satellite bar on the Marina Patio where
Darnell kept everyone cool with wine and beer and this helped cut down
congestion around the food serving tables in the lounge.
All in all, it was a
wonderful effort on everyone’s part from the Race Committee, the Chase
Boats, the spectator boats and my crew who not only cooked, but set up,
served and helped clean up after the picnic.
Congratulations to
everyone who participated. Our next event will be the Annual Meeting with
free pizza and open bar. Please plan on joining us November 10, the bar
will open at 5:30 pm,
pizza will be served at 6 pm and the annual meeting will follow at 7 pm.
