Turtles
CLYC Cruising Group
The cry can often be heard about Cypress Landing: "ARE YOU A TURTLE" and the
response will always be "YOU BET YOUR SWEET ASS I AM".
The Turtles is a loosely organized group of boaters at Cypress Landing. Most
of the members are sail boaters or trawler owners interested in cruising. We
don't go fast nor in the words of one of our founding members, BJ Reckman,
"turtles It don't flock." We are more interested in the voyage and not the
destination. We have members that may go with us for a few days to points
north or south and other members that will continue from whatever point that
is and go on for a month or more. Seldom do Turtles, when they are cruising,
miss a cocktail hour where stories and perhaps a lie or two may be told. Most
of us have had adventures and misadventures while cruising and no one is
immune from being the goat of that nights entertainment.
We have planned a trip to the Chesapeake bay for May. We
actually are going in two groups, one leaving early May and the second late
May. I must remind you that Turtles don't flock but we hope to find a
location where we can share stories in a large group on the Chesapeake. Some
are only going as far as Norfolk and others plan on Annapolis. We do not have
any specific plans after Norfolk and will go where the weather and conditions
allow.
We do have plans to take a fall cruise south, however, we will make those
plans while on the Chesapeake. Anyone interested in participating with the
Turtles can call BJ Reckman, Hal Stasch, Al Ross or Doug Smith.
